Brooklyn Health Center To Re-Open on May 3rd!
“Our Union’s Brooklyn health center will reopen with limited services this Monday, May 3rd” announces HTC President Rich Maroko. “Initially, the health center will offer primary care visits, lab work, and pharmacy only. HTC Members Rally for NYC Mayoral Candidate Eric Adams!
On Saturday, April 24th dozens of HTC members and their families came out to support Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams in Cadman Plaza Park, Brooklyn.
Our Union endorsed Eric Adams for NYC Mayor earlier this year. During the event’s opening remarks, HTC President Rich Maroko explained why, “Eric Adams will lead us out of this crisis and rebuild the city’s economy for working class people. HTC’s Own Tsultrim Sangmo Speaks at Rally for City Council Candidate Amit Singh Bagga!
On May 1, 2021, over 60 HTC members celebrated International Workers Day by attending a rally for city council candidate, Amit Singh Bagga. Bagga is running for City Council District 26, which includes the Queens neighborhoods of Sunnyside, Woodside, Long Island City, Astoria, and Dutch Kills.

Senator Schumer Joins HTC to Celebrate the Partial Reopening of the Brooklyn Health Center!
On Monday, May 10, our Union celebrated the partial re-opening of the Brooklyn health center alongside New York Senator and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
A long time friend and ally of our Union, Senator Schumer successfully negotiated 100%, fully subsidized COBRA as part of the American Rescue Plan earlier this year. The federal legislation has allowed thousands of our laid off members to get their free family healthcare back through September 30th. Read more...
HTC Endorses Queens Borough President Donovan Richards for Re-Election!
On Tuesday, May 4th, HTC President Rich Maroko joined Queens Borough President Donovan Richards to announce our Union’s endorsement of Richards’ re-election campaign.
President Maroko outlined for a crowd of HTC members why Donovan Richards is the right choice for working people in Queens, “Donovan has been one of the City’s fiercest advocates of workers, especially hospitality workers. Carlos Lopez, Warwick Hotel and Local 6 Vice President
Carlos Lopez, a fixture at the offices of HTC and Local 6 for more than 30 years, passed away on April 24. He leaves behind his son, Carlos Lopez Jr., his daughter-in-law, Diana, and grandchildren Matteo and Natalia. Lopez was 84 at the time of his death.
The news was greeted with great sadness by veteran members of our Union, but many of them also had very fond recollections of Lopez.

HTC Celebrates Mayor de Blasio’s Summer Tax Relief for NYC Hotels
On May 19th, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio signed an Executive Order putting a pause on the City’s hotel room occupancy tax this summer. The Executive Order is intended to accelerate the economic recovery of the hotel industry and encourage hotels to reopen and recall hotel workers. Guests will not have to pay the 5.875% occupancy tax from June 1 through August 31, effectively lowering the cost of rooms this summer and hopefully, driving up occupancy. Read More...
