In addition to representing hotel and gaming workers, our union represents workers at private membership clubs across New York City and some standalone restaurants.
Clubs
Private membership clubs
Club workers represented by our union are members of Local 6, an affiliate of HTC. Under all of our union's club contracts, workers enjoy annual wage increases, free family healthcare, job security, a pension, and more.
Our union represents thousands of food & beverage workers across New York and New Jersey hotels and casinos – as well as at several free standing restaurants.
Restaurant
The Boathouse
Our union represents restaurant workers at the Boathouse in Central Park. In the summer of 2011, the Boathouse workers had to walk off the job after the restaurant’s then-owner engaged in a vicious, years-long campaign to avoid the union. The strike lasted nearly 8 weeks. Over 1,000 union members volunteered on the picket line and dozens of local elected officials stood in solidarity with the Boathouse workers. In the end, management caved and signed a union contract that now provides guaranteed wage increases, excellent benefits, and the right to be treated with dignity and respect on the job.
Rainbow Room
Davorka Zulj, Banquet Server
"I believe that everyone deserves a stable job with guaranteed wage increases, great healthcare benefits and a retirement plan for the future. However, only with HTC can we have all of these great benefits, scheduling rights and work-life balance."
Harmonie Club
Billy Cruz, Club Front Office Clerk
"The union worked so hard for us day in and day out for the past 5 years to win our latest contract. They didn't stop working, tirelessly, just kept pushing every day, every day, every day, until they got us what we wanted. I'm so proud of that."
The Boathouse
Sani Maman Bachar, Server
"Before the contract, every day I went to work in fear. The restaurant did not want to hire people of color and refused to let me become a server. The managers would scream and curse at us," described Sani, who was one of the courageous leaders in the organizing drive and strike at the Boathouse in 2011. "The strike was very difficult, but the whole union backed us up. After winning the contract, we gained power and I was promoted to server. I can show up to work without worry. Management treats us with respect."
Lotos Club
Mohammed Miah, Club Waiter
"In our last contract negotiations, we secured the highest annual wage increase in the history of our club, and we couldn't be more proud. This is a sign that there's a bright future ahead of us, not just for the members at the Lotos Club, but for all members represented by our union."
The River Club
Frank Marano, Bell Captain
"I’ve been working at The River Club for 25 years. I value security and workers’ rights. Our union contract protects us."
The Players
Elisa Narpier, Grill Wait Staff
"I have dedicated 30 years to working at this club, and I plan on retiring from here. To know that I have a strong union backing me up – that support is invaluable."
