On July 9, 2015, the Hotel Trades Council was certified by the Office of the Impartial Chairperson as the bargaining representative of workers at the Dream Downtown. 77% of workers voted in favor of the union by signing union cards.

HTC Certified as Representative for 600 Workers at Rivers Casino!

On February 27th, the Hotel Trades Council was certified as the bargaining representative of more than 600 workers at Rivers Casino and Resort in Schenectady, NY. This marks the second casino that HTC has organized in less than a month.

BREAKING NEWS: After HTC’s Advocacy, Gov. Cuomo Expands Vaccine Eligibility for Hotel Workers in New York

After months of advocacy by HTC President Rich Maroko and our political team, New York Governor Cuomo announced this afternoon that New York State will expand the current vaccine eligibility to include hotel workers. The order enables local health departments to include hotel workers in their vaccination programs, and the next step is for New York City’s health department to do so.

HTC is now communicating with New York City officials to advocate for vaccines to be made available to hotel workers as soon as possible.

Over 250 HTC members attend BUNY rally for union jobs and safer working conditions

Over 250 HTC members turned out at Borough Hall to rally for union jobs and safer working conditions. HTC joined many other unions as a part of Build Up NYC to get the word out. Two workers have died at construction sites in Brooklyn in the last two months and union members came forward to say enough!

Telephone visits available for workers covered by Industry-Wide Benefit Plan

As you know, the Industry-Wide Benefit Plan canceled all non-emergent doctor appointments at the Health Centers. This safety measure was taken in order to limit healthy patients’ exposure to the novel coronavirus, and reduce the spread of COVID-19.

We are happy to announce that the Benefit Plan has set up the technology and infrastructure to schedule non-urgent primary care medical appointments as telephone visits. For any HTC represented workers, covered by the Industry-Wide Benefit plan—and your dependents— you can now schedule a telephone visit for any internal medicine, family practice, and pediatric providers. 

HTC Endorses Queens Borough President Donovan Richards for Re-Election!

On Tuesday, May 4th, HTC President Rich Maroko joined Queens Borough President Donovan Richards to announce our Union’s endorsement of Richards’ re-election campaign.

President Maroko outlined for a crowd of HTC members why Donovan Richards is the right choice for working people in Queens, “Donovan has been one of the City’s fiercest advocates of workers, especially hospitality workers. Union Wins A Contract For the Evelyn Hotel Employees

HTC has won a contract for the 41 employees of the Evelyn Hotel. The workers unanimously ratified the contract on January 11, 2017. Now, their working lives have drastically improved thanks to the terms and conditions provided for in the Industry Wide Agreement (IWA).
