Nesim Zuberi

Our union is saddened to announce the passing of Nesim Zuberi, a Banquet Captain who worked at the New York Athletic Club for 38 years.

Nesim was the fourth of six siblings. He was generous, had a big heart, and, according to his daughter Tatiana, was always cracking jokes. He loved fishing, Albanian music, oldies rock, and freestyle.

Nesim was respected and loved by the banquets team at the Club for his kindness and quiet strength. His coworker and close friend Arjan Kadiu, who had worked with him since 1997, said that Nesim “was always part of the team. All the waiters who worked with him loved him. He was so sweet, if he saw you struggling, he would jump in and help.”

Arjan added that Nesim “was a family man, always talking about his kids,” and his daughter Tatiana agreed, saying he always bragged about her and her three brothers to everyone. She said that Nesim was “someone who enjoyed life no matter what, a free spirit who went out of his way for everyone… he just wanted to everyone to live their life to the fullest.” His younger brother, Ramazan, added that “no matter his financial circumstances, if you needed help, Nesim would give you everything in his pockets or the shirt off his back.”

Ramazan said that Nesim (Nace for short) was one of the best brothers anyone could have. He recalled memories of playing in the park with Nesim in Brooklyn, including one time when they got covered in dirt and had to wash their clothes at a nearby laundromat (waiting in their underwear!) to try and hide the mess from their grandmother. Nesim is survived by his four children, two siblings, and his mother. He is missed deeply by all those who loved him dearly.
