Johanny Tejeda
Rank-and-File OrganizerJohanny, a Housekeeping Supervisor at the Hampton Inn & Suites Mahwah, met union organizers in 2015, when we organized her hotel. After working non-union for years, making $9.50/hr and cleaning up to 32 rooms each day, winning a union contract changed her life. Johanny became a delegate on the job and has been advocating for the members in her department. Johanny has long believed that our union is a powerful force for good that delivers beer wages, health care, retirement benefits, and job security to workers. “For these reasons and so many more,” she says, “I love my union.” Johanny has joined HEAT to help prepare for the 2026 contract fight. In the past few months, Johanny has been turning out members to attend union events, delegate trainings, HEAT CAPTAIN meetings, and more – all with the goal of strengthening the union.
