Jin Chen
Banquet server | The Pierre / Conrad Midtown
It is with great sadness that the union announces the passing of our brother Jin “James” Chen, a banquet server at The Pierre and the Conrad Midtown.
“He was such a gentleman and so kind,” shared Howard Redford, Local 6 Delegate Assemblymember and fellow banquet server. “Jin loved to read, and without fail on every break you would find him with a book in his hands.”
Antonio Codita, a friend for 16 years, recalls the beautiful friendship he cultivated with Jin, or whom he affectionately called “Shushu,” which means ‘uncle’ in Chinese. “Shushu was incredibly motivated, and he had a great sense of humor. Even after working a long, tough days at The Pierre he would still have energy to make a joke and make me smile. And he couldn’t help but beam with pride when sharing his daughters' academic and professional successes with us. His wife's dedication to the religious community, and their family vacations were also topics he loved to talk about. Rest In Peace, Shushu Chen, as your smile, camaraderie, and strong character forever remain with us.”
