Our union is heartbroken to announce the loss of Cristina Aponte, who passed away on May 17, 2026. Cristina worked at our union for two decades. She played a valuable role in the day-to-day operations of the Contract Enforcement Department.

Cristina was a loving, passionate, and dedicated member of her community whose joyful presence was infectious, reaching everyone around her. A creative and kind soul, Cristina loved arts and crafts, baking for others (her specialties included cheesecake, flan, carrot cake, and tres leches) and collecting harlequin dolls and statues.

Cristina was a devoted mother, daughter, and sibling and is survived by her four children (Kelsey, Oscar, Carlos, Milenna), whom she loved fiercely. Her nurture and care extended not only to her family and friends, but also to her beloved plants.

Cristina's sharp mind and determination were apparent in all aspects of her life, including her education. She graduated from LaGuardia Community College before enrolling in the City University of New York’s School of Professional Studies to receive her bachelor’s degree.

“The office won’t be the same without her smart witty jokes, laugh, and smile. She was a great coworker and a thoughtful person and she’ll be missed,” said Joe Messineo, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 6 and HTC Regional Director.
