Division A Scholarship Renewals Awarded

A total of 16 college students who won Hotel Trades Council Division A scholarships in previous years have been awarded renewals in 2015. Under the program, Division A scholarship winners have the opportunity to receive an additional $2,000 grant for each undergraduate college year they complete with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or better.

These tax shelters have grown enormously in popularity, especially in states like New York where residents have a state income tax to pay in addition to their federal income tax.

So while you are covered here at home, don’t expect your foreign medical provider to accept the coverage you have at home as payment.
Retired Members Applaud Seniors’ Days 2015

This year’s Seniors’ Days drew high praise from the almost 700 retired or near-retirement members who participated. The event was well attended at each of the four Health Centers, showing that members who are seniors and those approaching retirement have grown to really appreciate its benefits.
Final Notice: Writing Contest Deadline Is June 19

This is a reminder to members’ children who are high school students that the deadline for submitting entries to the Union’s writing contest is Friday, June 19. Entries postmarked after the June 19 deadline will not be able to qualify for the cash prizes offered in the competition.

HOTELES QUE NO PERTENECEN AL GRUPO DE NEGOCIACIÓN

La primera categoría consiste en hoteles afines, denominados “Me Too”, en inglés. Los hoteles “Me Too” son aquellos que habían acordado independientemente estar sujetos a lo que negociara la Hotel Association.

Campaign to Raise the Minimum Wage Continues

As we reported briefly in last week’s edition, hundreds of members of our Union turned out at a May 7 rally to raise the minimum wage. The featured speaker at the Union Square rally was Governor Andrew Cuomo, and he did not mince words in saying that New York’s working poor deserve a raise. Cuomo’s remarks were not political rhetoric. He backed them up with executive action.

As we have reported in Hotel Voice the last two weeks, the hotel industry’s annual blood drive will be held on Tuesday, May 26th, between the hours of 12:00 noon. and 6:00 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Metropolitan Hotel, 569 Lexington Ave. (between 50th and 51st Streets) in the Metro 3 Room on the mezzanine level.
