As you know, normally, if you are laid off or leave your job, your healthcare coverage ends unless you buy continuing COBRA coverage. Fortunately, during the Coronavirus crisis, our Union has been able to make the employers to pay the cost of continuing to provide health coverage to the tens of thousands of our members who have been laid off.
While your Union is trying to extend benefits even further, there is little question that the additional funding for employees who are not working is going to end before the industry gets completely back on its feet. Feed the front lines: sLICe Astoria and DJ Camilo donate pizza to Queens Health Center staff

Employees at the Queens Health Center were surprised on May 7 by a big delivery. 25 pizzas rolled through the doors, courtesy of Queens native and radio host on Hot 97, DJ Camilo and Danny from sLICe Astoria. DJ Camilo and Danny dropped by the Health Center to share their appreciation for healthcare workers during the pandemic, and donated the pizzas as part of the #feedthefrontlines campaign.

As previously reported, unless the city’s hotel industry recovers by the end of the year and a large number of members are recalled, it is very likely that the Benefit Funds will have to temporarily reduce staffing and close locations in January, reducing services for those workers who remain working – at least until the industry recovers. As you know, the Industry-Wide Benefit Plan canceled all non-emergent doctor appointments at the Health Centers. This safety measure was taken in order to limit healthy patients’ exposure to the novel coronavirus, and reduce the spread of COVID-19.
We are happy to announce that the Benefit Plan has set up the technology and infrastructure to schedule non-urgent primary care medical appointments as telephone visits. For any HTC represented workers, covered by the Industry-Wide Benefit plan—and your dependents— you can now schedule a telephone visit for any internal medicine, family practice, and pediatric providers.
Urgent need for blood donors in NY

The blood supply in New York is dangerously low. The New York Blood Center is asking for healthy New Yorkers to consider giving blood. Donating blood can help save lives and is always important, but during a pandemic is more important than ever.
NYC offers free COVID-19 testing and antibody tests

On June 29, NYC Health + Hospitals began to offer free antibody tests at locations across the five boroughs. The City is also offering free COVID-19 testing to all New York City Residents, whether or not they have had symptoms of the virus.
