Social Security, Medicare Trustees Issue Their 2014 Report

Earlier this year, all participants in the Hotel Trades Council’s pension fund received in their home mails an annual report of funding status from the pension fund’s trustees. In fact, all U.S. workers who participate in a pension fund can expect to receive this report from its trustees each year because it is required by law.

Those who are unhappy with the election results that occur this week in New York and across the U.S. have no reason to complain if they didn’t vote. We should add that failure to be registered is not a valid excuse for not voting. That’s because it is so easy to register.

Immunizations are not only for children! Everyone should be vaccinated, regardless of age. In fact, in New York City 99% of the deaths that could be prevented by vaccination now occur in adults, not children.

NYC People’s Climate March Draws 400,000

A good-sized group of Hotel Trades Council members was among the crowd of the almost 400,000 people that turned out for the People’s Climate March in the city this week. Members met up at 56th Street and joined the march down to 34th Street in a demonstration of common cause that was more than impressive.

Remember Scott Walker? He’s the governor of Wisconsin who took away the union rights of state workers. The unions representing state workers are no longer allowed to bargain for wages and other items as a result of legislation passed by Walker and the Republican-controlled Wisconsin state legislature.

If you are not registered to vote you can do so by downloading a form from a website all New York voters can use. At www.elections.ny.gov/ you can download a New York State voter registration form and learn the steps necessary in order to become eligible to vote.
Do We Have Your Correct Address?

Does the Union have your correct address? If you are not receiving this newspaper in your home mail, for example, it is likely the Union does not have your current address on file. It could mean a loss of benefits in addition to an absence of the important information that you need to know.
