Members Rally for Responsible Development

November 3, 2014 1:15 PM

For a long time our Union has been campaigning through Build Up NYC for assurances of responsible development that will mean good-paying jobs in both the building and operation of various projects in New York. One of these projects is Astoria Cove, a planned residential development in Queens that needs City Council approval. Hundreds of members of our union and others joined the rally seen here that took place outside City Hall two weeks ago, on the day of Council hearings about the project. Our members were joined at the Build Up NYC rally by members from the Carpenters union, SEIU 32-BJ, DC9 (the painters union) and other unions. There have been several other Build Up NYC rallies in recent weeks and many member volunteers have also been working on the campaigns of political candidates who support working families. We’ll have photos of these activities in next week’s edition.
