HTC Members Support Shuttle Bus Drivers in Newark
On Friday, January 20th, 65 HTC members turned out to a rally in Newark, NJ, in support of our brothers and sisters at Local 108, RWDSU. At the time, Local 108 was in a contract fight with Gateway, a shuttle bus company. The company’s shuttle bus drivers earn low wages and had not seen a wage increase in five years.

Because of the caring effort of hundreds of New York City hotel industry employees on October 2, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) received a large amount of needed funding. The event was the 25th annual Hotel Workers Walkathon.

This year marks the 14th anniversary of the Union’s annual writing contest for high school students and the competition grows more popular each year. For the 2016 edition of the contest, almost 300 entries were submitted.

The Union has won a contract for the Hotel Trades Council (HTC) members employed at the Courtyard Newark Downtown Hotel. The hotel joined the rapidly growing list of shops in New Jersey that are bound to the Greater Regional Industry Wide Agreement, or GRIWA.

Workers at Atlantic City’s Trump Taj Mahal went on strike on July 1, after repeated attempts to achieve a fair contract were unsuccessful. Hotel Trades Council staff and members have been supporting the Taj Mahal strikers on the picket line every day.
