We are saddened by the passing of John Mensah, an Engineer at the St. Regis Hotel. John is remembered as a great husband, father, and grandfather.
John immigrated to New York City from Ghana and worked at the St. Regis since the hotel re-opened in 1991. His coworkers remember him as a helpful and skilled worker, and a proud union member.

Hotel Industry, Union Remember Anne Power
The New York City hotel industry was shaken recently when Anne Power passed away. She was a veteran of the human resources departments at several hotels in our city, beginning at the St. Regis, and serving as the director at the Palace and the Westin Times Square, and she was highly respected by everyone. She was only 54 years of age when she passed away, adding to the great sadness her loss caused us.

Marie Kelly, Carlyle
Our Union is sad to announce the passing of Marie Kelly, who was a PBX Operator at the Carlyle for over 20 years.
At the age of 21, Marie came from Ireland to New York and later had three daughters with her husband Thomas Kelly. Marie’s daughter Catrina shared how her mom was “one of a kind, a true lady, friend and confidant with an infectious laugh and undeniable work ethic.”

NY State announces it will backdate unemployment claims

We have been hearing from many members about the difficulties you are having filing your unemployment claims due to the New York State Department of Labor's website and phone lines being overwhelmed. We have been monitoring this issue and want to inform you all that it has been announced that any claim you file will be backdated to the date you became unemployed. If you are eligible, you will be paid for all benefits due.
