Meet the 2013 Vito J. Pitta Scholarship Winners
A few weeks ago, Hotel Voice provided the names of the 2013 recipients of the Vito J. Pitta scholarships. A total of 35 graduating high school seniors received $280,000 in college grant money this year, and the program overall has now awarded a total of $7,080,000 to 885 students since its inception.

HTC gets strict safety agreement for reopening

Our Union has negotiated an agreement that extends the “Coronavirus Hotel Safety Protocol” and adds important new protections for our members as they return to work, takes steps to prevent outbreaks at a workplace, and makes sure members who contract the Coronavirus are able to take the time they need, with pay, to recover.

The Story Behind the GRIWA
When HTC’s jurisdiction was expanded in 2010, it inherited hotels with weak contracts, low wages and benefits, and workers who were not impressed by the union representation they were receiving. After several difficult contract fights to improve upon these poor conditions, HTC set out with a plan to imitate the success that HTC has achieved in New York City by organizing more hotels to expand union density and by establishing a new master contract for the region similar to the IWA in New York City.

With Michael Goodwin’s Retirement, HTC Executive Board Is Realigned
With the retirement of Michael Goodwin as Secretary-Treasurer of the Hotel Trades Council there has been a realignment of the union’s Executive Board. Local 94 Business Manager Kuba Brown was named as Goodwin’s replacement as HTC Secretary-Treasurer, and Local 153 Business Manager Richard Lanigan was named as an HTC Vice President.
Roberto Pozo, Metropolitan Club
We are saddened by the loss of Roberto Pozo, a doorman at the Metropolitan Club, who passed away on April 17.
Roberto was a loving father and husband. He is remembered as a mentor and a dear friend by his coworkers. He was a helpful and caring presence in his workplace, who always went out of his way to share his wisdom with others.
