20 Years and Still Going Strong – the Union’s Writing Contest of 2022 Offers Cash Prizes to High School Students
Calling all budding writers and journalists! The Union is proud to announce the commencement of the 20th Anniversary of the annual Writing Contest. The rules of the contest have remained unchanged from previous years. Entries can be submitted by children and eligible dependents of Hotel and Gaming Trades Council and/or Local 6 members, who are high school students in grades 10, 11 or 12. The Vito J. Pitta scholarship program and the Hotel and Gaming Trades Council Division A scholarship program are now accepting applications for the 2023 awards. Since the start of the Union’s scholarship program over 37 years ago, it has provided over 1,100 of our members’ children with the financial support necessary to pursue their dreams of a college education. HTC Congratulates Rob Menendez On His Democratic Primary Victory for New Jersey Congress
On Tuesday, June 7th, Rob Menendez Jr. won the Democratic Primary for New Jersey’s 8th Congressional District in a landslide victory, taking more than 83% of the vote. Just a few days prior to the election, HTC members mobilized to support Menendez in Jersey City and get out the vote as part of a final push for his campaign. Read more...
New York’s Plan to Convert Bad Hotels into Affordable Housing
Over the last year, our allies in the New York State government have passed a series of new laws aimed at addressing two major problems afflicting our communities: the desperate need for affordable housing and out-of-control hotel development.
The legislation has had the full support of our Union as it protects good union jobs, addresses the problems caused by decades of overdevelopment, and helps tackle the City’s housing crisis. Read more...
2024 College Scholarship Winners
The Union’s scholarship program is one of the hard-won rights that members fought for during the 1985 city-wide strike. In the decades since, the program has awarded over $10 million to cover the education expenses of more than 1,200 children of HTC and Local 6 members. Read more...
HTC Member Lisa Sinishtaj on Organizing Resorts World Hudson Valley
Lisa Sinishtaj became a member of our Union in 2018. At the time, she was working at Resorts World Catskills, one of the ten gaming locations that have joined our ranks over the last decade. At the end of last year, Lisa transferred to the new Resorts World Hudson Valley in Newburgh, NY, where she played a role in helping 200 of her coworkers win Union representation – and the benefits that come with it. The Union Plus Education Foundation is accepting applications for their annual college scholarships through January 31st, 2023! The Foundation awards scholarships to active and retired members, their spouses, and their dependent children from participating unions all over the country. The prizes range from $500 to $4,000, and are one-time awards that will be applied to study for the Fall semester of 2023. Read more...
