The Union has won at contract for the workers at the EVEN Midtown hotel in NYC. The employees won HTC representation through a card count certification conducted at the Office of the Impartial Chairperson.

On May 1, 2021, over 60 HTC members celebrated International Workers Day by attending a rally for city council candidate, Amit Singh Bagga. Bagga is running for City Council District 26, which includes the Queens neighborhoods of Sunnyside, Woodside, Long Island City, Astoria, and Dutch Kills.

HTC advocates for hospitality workers to be vaccinated early

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved two vaccines for emergency use to prevent COVID-19, the first from Pfizer-BioNTech and the second from Moderna. The COVID-19 vaccine will protect individuals from getting sick from this deadly virus and will undoubtedly aid in the economic recovery of our region’s hospitality and gaming industries.

The world-famous restaurant Tavern on the Green served its last meals under the LeRoy management to guests on New Year's Eve. Even amidst the revelry, both guests and the union members who served them recognized the poignance of the occasion.

Campaign to Raise the Minimum Wage Continues

As we reported briefly in last week’s edition, hundreds of members of our Union turned out at a May 7 rally to raise the minimum wage. The featured speaker at the Union Square rally was Governor Andrew Cuomo, and he did not mince words in saying that New York’s working poor deserve a raise. Cuomo’s remarks were not political rhetoric. He backed them up with executive action.

TWA Hotel Opens at JFK

The old TWA terminal at JFK International Airport, which sat vacant for more than 20 years, opened in May as the TWA Hotel. HTC President Peter Ward was invited for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, where he joined the hotel’s developers and elected officials in celebrating the hotel’s opening.
