During the emergency, members will access most union office services by phone

Due to the health threat posed by the coronavirus pandemic, the medical director of the Benefit Funds has advised the Union to reorganize our office operations so that members will be able to deal with all the departments of the Union without coming to our headquarters on 8th Avenue. The Union clerical, dues, technical, and other office staff will be doing their work via online links from their homes. So, members should not come to the office except with an appointment.
Mario Gabelli Named Honorary Member

A special moment took place at the December meeting of the Local 6 Delegate Assembly, when for only the fourth time in its 81-year history the union bestowed an honorary membership. The recipient of the honorary membership was Mario Gabelli, whose generous support for the Hotel Trades Council's scholarship fund has allowed for more awards and larger grants. Mr. Gabelli's father, Joseph Gabelli, was a charter member of both Local 6 and the Hotel Trades Council.
New York passes nation’s strongest ban on evictions and foreclosures
On December 28th, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the COVID-19 Emergency Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention Act. The law effectively enacts a 60-day eviction and foreclosure moratorium for all New York tenants and homeowners until February 26, 2021. New Yorkers who are experiencing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic and who submit a hardship declaration form are prevented from being evicted or having their home foreclosed on for even longer, until May 1, 2021.

The Union won an important victory in arbitration yesterday, guaranteeing workers continued health care if they are laid off as a result of the Coronavirus crisis.
Update: Senate passes $2 trillion stimulus plan; bill moves to the House for a vote

The $2 trillion dollar stimulus bill will now move to the House, which is expected to take up the bill and pass it on Friday. At that point it will be sent to the President for his signature. Once it is signed it will become law.

HTC at the 1963 March on Washington
The 1963 March on Washington is one of the most celebrated moments in the Civil Rights Movement. Organized by a coalition of civil rights organizations and progressive unions, the march brought over 250,000 people from around the country to support the passage of civil rights legislation. The march is perhaps best known for Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech, and is widely credited with contributing to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
HTC Members Get Out the Vote in Georgia
Eighteen HTC members and organizers are volunteering in Georgia to get out the vote for Democratic Senate candidates, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock. On January 5th, Georgia will hold a run-off election, which will determine which party holds power in the Senate.
In less than a month, President-Elect Biden will take over the economic recovery of our nation and begin managing the COVID-19 crisis. In order to implement many of his most ambitious plans, Biden will need the Senate’s support.
