Extended Unemployment Benefits Coming to an Abrupt Halt

Thousands of our members have been relying on multiple federally funded programs extending and supplementing unemployment during the COVID-19 crisis. The federal and state governments have extended unemployment well beyond the normal limit of 26 weeks of benefits during this crisis. However, on August 19th, President Biden announced that the federal government would not be extending these programs and he urged states with high unemployment rates – which include New York and New Jersey – to use the federal relief money they have received to extend unemployment benefits. Our Union Health Centers are doing coronavirus testing

As of Friday, March 13, all four of our Union Health Centers in New York City began Coronavirus (COVID-19) testing of HTC-represented workers covered by our Industry-Wide Health Benefit Plan and their eligible dependents, at no cost to participants and their dependents. However, the supply of test kits our health centers have is very limited at this stage due to the nation-wide shortage.

NYS offers free antibody testing for food delivery and restaurant workers

The New York State Department of Health has extended free COVID-19 antibody testing for food delivery and restaurant workers through Saturday, June 6.

If you work in New York State and in food and beverage, and would like to be tested, the following testing sites are open from 10:00am-5:30pm daily until Saturday, June 6 (with the exception of John Jay College, Lehman College, and New York Institute of Technology testing sites, which will close at 5 PM). NYC Public School Parents: Opt Into Blended Learning By November 15th

The New York City Department of Education has announced that the parents of NYC public school students who are enrolled in remote learning have until November 15, 2020 to decide if they want to enroll their child in “blended learning” (a mix of both in-person and online/remote learning) for the rest of the school year.

After November 15th, students who are enrolled in remote-only learning will not be able to change their minds. Read more...

Already recognized by the City of New York’s Department of Health for an outstanding program to help members stop smoking, the Health Centers recently earned another prestigious distinction. The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and the American Diabetes Association (ADA) has announced that the Health Centers have received recognition for providing high quality care to patients with diabetes.
