Division A Scholarship Renewals Awarded

A total of 16 college students who won Hotel Trades Council Division A scholarships in previous years have been awarded renewals in 2015. Under the program, Division A scholarship winners have the opportunity to receive an additional $2,000 grant for each undergraduate college year they complete with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or better.

Union “YES!” at the Ludlow Hotel – HTC Wins with 97% of the Vote

Despite a nasty anti-union campaign by management, the workers of the Ludlow Hotel, on Ludlow and East Houston Streets in Lower Manhattan, have voted by a rather unambiguous majority in favor of HTC and have now won the priceless right to negotiate. The vote was conducted by the National Labor Relations Board on August 20, 2015.

On August 24, the workers at the Evelyn Hotel, on 27th Street between 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue, voted by a uniquely sizable majority to obtain the right to negotiate, and be represented by the Hotel Trades Council.

After a long and hard-fought battle, the Union has settled certain grievances on behalf of security and locksmith employees at the Waldorf-Astoria. These grievances were scheduled for arbitration in the upcoming weeks but the Union believes the terms of this agreement provide more than what could have been achieved through arbitration.

In fact, all U.S. workers who participate in a pension fund can expect to receive this report from its trustees each year because it is required by law.

Local 6 Business Manager Peter Ward and the Local 6 administration were re-elected to office by acclamation at a Delegate Assembly meeting on September 15. Ward and his team will serve a three-year term in office.
