Union Wins Back Pay at the Waldorf Astoria
After a long and hard-fought battle, the Union has settled certain grievances on behalf of security and locksmith employees at the Waldorf-Astoria. These grievances were scheduled for arbitration in the upcoming weeks but the Union believes the terms of this agreement provide more than what could have been achieved through arbitration. The agreement, which was unanimously ratified by the employees this month, requires the Hotel to pay 35 security and locksmith workers the total amount of $144,283 in back pay for various violations of the Industry-Wide Agreement (IWA) and the law. It also provides additional lucrative job rights and protections.
“This agreement resolves multiple longstanding grievances and marks a huge victory for the security and locksmith employees at the Waldorf,” said HTC Grievance Manager, Joseph Messineo. “The Union could have never achieved this victory if it weren’t for the unprecedented employee rights provided in the IWA.”
