The Union has won a contract for the employees at the Westin Jersey City. The hotel signed on to the Greater Regional Industry Wide Agreement, or GRIWA, which is the HTC contract for the area.

HTC has won a contract for the 41 employees of the Evelyn Hotel. The workers unanimously ratified the contract on January 11, 2017. Now, their working lives have drastically improved thanks to the terms and conditions provided for in the Industry Wide Agreement (IWA).

Union negotiating emergency safety protocols amid coronavirus outbreak

The Union is negotiating, company by company, a special emergency agreement with the hotel industry to address pressing concerns to our members caused by the Coronavirus Crisis. We are calling the agreement the “Coronavirus Hotel Safety Protocol,” and most of the major hotel operators have already signed on to it (see below for a current list). We are in urgent and energetic discussions with those companies who, as of yet, have not signed.

As we have reported in Hotel Voice the last two weeks, the hotel industry’s annual blood drive will be held on Tuesday, May 26th, between the hours of 12:00 noon. and 6:00 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Metropolitan Hotel, 569 Lexington Ave. (between 50th and 51st Streets) in the Metro 3 Room on the mezzanine level.

City wide boom in hotel development continues

According to a recent article on the popular real estate blog, DNAinfo.com, a new hotel, which bills itself as "tapping into [Bushwick's] 'Raw Feeling of Creativity'" will open in spring of 2015. The 116-room Bklyn House Hotel is just one of the many non-union hotels slated to open in 2015, which means the only thing that's raw about the place is the poverty pay deal it will likely offer its employees.

What happens when the emergency funding of the Benefit Funds ends in January?

As previously reported, unless the city’s hotel industry recovers by the end of the year and a large number of members are recalled, it is very likely that the Benefit Funds will have to temporarily reduce staffing and close locations in January, reducing services for those workers who remain working – at least until the industry recovers. Read more...
