Aching Dogs Theater Wows Audiences Once Again
The people in this photo have every reason to applaud. They are members of the cast of the most recent production of the Union’s theater program, Aching Dogs Theater.
Miguel Jaquez, Millennium Hilton
Our brother Miguel Jaquez, a steward at the Millennium Hilton for 22 years and Union delegate, has passed away.
Miguel’s sister Maria, also a Union delegate at the New York Hilton, remembered her brother as a strong family man and a hard worker. “He adored his three children, and his favorite thing to do was to cook for his family and spend time with all of us. I especially loved the picnics we would have at my house. Miguel and I would also attend Union rallies together. I miss him so much now that he is gone.”

John Lam’s new Sheraton Brooklyn opens its doors
As reported in the Wall Street Journal, hotel developer John Lam opened a new, full-service Sheraton hotel in downtown Brooklyn on May 20, 2010. The non-union Sheraton Brooklyn, one of the many new hotels currently planned for Brooklyn, threatens our union's density and our ability to negotiate strong contracts in the future.

Our Union Negotiates Emergency Safety Agreement to Confront Risks of COVID-19
On August 14, 2020, our Union reached an agreement with the Hotel Association of New York City, Inc. that extends the “Coronavirus Hotel Safety Protocol” through January 1, 2021 and continues until the earlier of either the end of the current, declared state of emergency or declared public health emergency, or an FDA-approved vaccine becomes available at the health centers.
