Marriott Marquis Workers Win Union Recognition After 35 Years

Last week, our Union finally succeeded in organizing the largest and oldest non-union hotel in New York City, the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square. HTC won recognition as the collective bargaining representative of the workers in the hotel’s housekeeping department. 1,200 Del Lago Casino workers organize with HTC!

On February 15th, HTC was certified as the collective bargaining representative of 1,200 bargaining unit employees at the new del Lago Resort and Casino in the Finger Lakes Region. The del Lago is the second major casino in New York State to be organized by our union.

The Foundation awards scholarships to active and retired members, their spouses, and their dependent children from participating unions all over the country. 70% of Boathouse workers sign up

After signing up a majority of the workers, the union has filed all necessary petitions with the United States Government to demand union recognition from Boathouse management. The union, along with its supporters, is now free to take any actions necessary to force management to reinstate the employees who were illegally terminated, and to negotiate a contract with the union.

Winning the union at the Boathouse Restaurant

In a recent article, Juan Gonzalez of the New York Daily News reported on why Boathouse workers have been using recorders at work as protection against management's anti-union intimidation. Recorded threats, bribes, retaliatory actions, and more have provided evidence supporting the long list of unfair labor practice charges the Hotel Trades Council has filed against restaurant operator Dean Poll and his managers on behalf of the workers.

HTC wins labor peace agreement with MoMA tower developer

Despite initial resistance, the NY Hotel Trades Council has secured a labor peace agreement with the project developer Hines on a planned 120-room hotel in a tower adjacent to the Museum of Modern Art.
