New York Attorney General and Mayor Eric Adams Take Down Slumlords Running Illegal Hotel

On February 23rd, New York Attorney General Letitia James and New York City Mayor Eric Adams took down a pair of Brooklyn-based slumlords who ran an unlawful short-term rental operation and illegally evicted tenants during the state’s eviction moratorium in 2020. The city reached a settlement of $2.25 million, requiring the slumlords to pay $250,000 in fines and turn over one of their Brooklyn properties, which will be converted into affordable housing. Kids Days to Be Held August 12-14

Seniors’ Days 2014 Draws a Record Turnout

Congratulations to the Health Centers! They provided a top-notch health and wellness event for older members of our Union and its great value showed, judging by the record number of visits Seniors’ Days 2014 drew. In fact, this year’s attendance topped last year’s by more than 25 percent! It’s further evidence of the success of the event, which has grown in popularity each year.

NLRB prepared to sue to protect key provision of NLRA

In a January 14, 2011, press release, the National Labor Relations Board announced it is prepared to bring suit to invalidate amendments in four state constitutions that abrogate a key portion of the National Labor Relations Act. The Board has concluded these amendments restrict the rights available to workers and employers under Section 7 of the NLRA, and are thus violative of the Supremacy Clause of the United States Constitution and cannot legally be applied or enforced.

Rainbow Room Once Again A Union House

On July 16th workers at the world famous Rainbow Room restaurant cast their vote for the union, with 94% voting to be represented by the Hotel Trades Council. Workers have taken an important step to winning the job security, guaranteed good benefits, workplace rights, and secured wage increases which come with an HTC union contract.
