HTC President Peter Ward has been selected by Governor Cuomo to be on the New York Forward Re-Opening Advisory Board. The board is made up of 100 academic, business, community and labor leaders from across the state, who will help guide the gradual re-opening of New York state in a way that balances public health and safety and the desire to return to a new normal.

If you haven’t already participated in the 2020 census, we strongly encourage you to complete your census questionnaire now. The results of the census are critical in determining your community’s political representation and getting access to federal funding over the next 10 years.

There is a great risk that because of fear among immigrant communities and because of COVID-19 (which has made it impossible for census counters to go door to door to collect incomplete surveys), that people will go uncounted in the 2020 Census. When people are uncounted it has drastic and dangerous impacts.

Members Celebrate Tentative Agreement to Renew IWA at Radio City Music Hall

On February 7th, 2012, nearly 6,000 union members packed Radio City Music Hall to hear HTC President Peter Ward detail the tough negotiations with the Hotel Association of New York City, Inc. (the organization that represents many of the city's hotel owners).

Some union hotels apply for PPP Loans

A few Union hotels have applied for Paycheck Protection Program loans (“PPP loans”). These loans are an incentive for businesses to keep their employees on the payroll during the Coronavirus crisis.

HTC Pres. Peter Ward appointed to 2 advisory councils for re-opening NYC

Mayor Bill de Blasio has asked HTC President Peter Ward to serve on New York City’s Labor and Workforce Advisory Council and the Advisory Council for the Arts, Culture and Tourism. Mayor de Blasio established ten advisory councils, which will advise the Mayor on how to re-open New York City and focus on issues such as the protective equipment needed to safely re-open each industry.

NYC giving out free face coverings at NYC parks until Tuesday, May 12

New York City is distributing free face coverings at public parks until Tuesday, May 12th. Governor Cuomo has required New Yorkers to wear a mask or face covering when you are out in public and unable to maintain 6-feet of distance from others.

NJ Governor Phil Murphy asks HTC Pres. Peter Ward to advise on re-opening tourism in the state

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has announced the formation of New Jersey’s Restart and Recovery Advisory Council, which will focus on both the immediate efforts to restart New Jersey’s economy and the long-term recovery. Governor Murphy has asked HTC President Peter Ward to serve on the Council’s subcommittee for Tourism and Entertainment.
