This year's winners wrote about a wide range of topics. As in past contests, however, the diverse entries often had the collective element of social awareness.

Union’s theater group to present its 20th production

The Hotel Trades Council's actors group, Aching Dogs Theater, is about to present its next production. The group will present New York Nuts 3 in two weeks, and it will feature a host of hotel and restaurant workers who are also fine writers, directors and actors.

Tavern workers’ jobs extended through the holiday season

With Tavern on the Green's current lease set to expire on December 31, 2009, it was feared that the restaurant would have to close before the busy holiday season in order to have enough time to secure and resell its expensive paintings, furnishings and other fixtures.
