October 25, 2009 8:00 PM

The Hotel Trades Council's actors group, Aching Dogs Theater, is about to present its next production. The group will present New York Nuts 3 in two weeks, and it will feature a host of hotel and restaurant workers who are also fine writers, directors and actors. It will be the twentieth time Aching Dogs Theater will present members of our union performing live before an audience.

The show will take place at the Hudson Guild Theatre, 441West 26th Street (between Ninth and Tenth Avenues). The show will run from. Wednesday, November 4 through Sunday, November 8. Performances are at 8:00 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, with a matinee at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 8. The production will present seven one-act scenes and will feature more than a dozen members of the union performing. In addition, members wrote some of the scenes and direct some of the others.

Aching Dogs Theater was founded by the union to accommodate the large number of hotel, restaurant and club employees who, while working as servers, bartenders or bell staff, would rather be acting on stage or before the camera. The program is a unique venue that allows Hotel Trades Council members of all ages and backgrounds to come together to act, to have fun, and to show off their talents.

The program holds weekly workshops and once or twice a year presents a live production that other union members are always welcome to attend. The Producing Artistic Director of the group, Pam Scott, is always willing to work around everyone's busy schedules to ensure that anyone who is interested in performing on stage has the opportunity to do so.

As noted earlier, several of the one-act scenes to be presented in two weeks were written by union members and others will be directed by members. In addition, the upcoming production will feature not only members of our union that have performed in previous Aching Dogs productions but also some newcomers. And if past productions are any indication this 20th production will be an interesting and highly entertaining night of theater. Among those taking part in the latest production are Mike Rutkoski (Sheraton New York), Nina Rochelle (Helmsley Park Lane), and Magdalena Rogowski (Hudson Hotel).

"We are working hard to make sure that we give the audience a really good evening of theater," said Pam Scott, the Producing Artistic Director for Aching Dogs Theater. "We think this production will rank with some of the top shows that we have put on in the past. We really hope members will come and find out for themselves how talented many of their co-workers are."

Again, the performances will take place at the Hudson Guild Theatre from Wednesday, November 4 through Sunday, November 8. Performances are at 8:00p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, with a matinee on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. The Hudson Guild Theatre is located at 441 West 26th Street, between Ninth and Tenth Avenues.

All of those who are involved in the production are excited about it and think members will really enjoy what they see. Admission is $12.00, but Hotel Trades Council members will receive tickets for only $5.00 by making reservations in advance or by showing their union cards or this newspaper article at the door of the theater. (Also, any members who are currently unemployed will be admitted free of charge). Reservations guarantee seating, and they can be made by calling 212-564-6485.

The upcoming production will be a great chance for some very talented and hardworking members of our union to get up on stage and show their artistic talents. We urge members to attend these performances. Those that do so can readily expect to be greatly entertained by the talent of the Aching Dog Players.
