There was a lot of parental pride on display this week as 13 children of Hotel Trades Council Division A members received scholarships and 13 previous Division A scholarship winners received renewals. The 26 students received $58,500 in total grants. The awards were presented by Peter Ward and other Union officers

This week, the Supreme Court struck down the section of the historic Voting Rights Act of 1965 that makes changes in voting procedures in certain states and individual counties subject to immediate legal review and mandatory rectification. The Court said Congress was always free to address any voter suppression through legislation.

New Yorker Hotel workers receive $125,000 from consent award!

As many members will recall, a recent health and safety case at the New Yorker Hotel resulted in an arbitration consent award that included a $125,000 penalty that was to be paid to the workers.
