Scab Rebecca Friedrichs Featured Speaker at Republican Convention

In the first ten minutes on the first night of its 2020 National Convention, the Republican Party featured a notorious anti-union former teacher, Rebecca Friedrichs, to deliver a vitriolic attack against labor unions. Friedrichs was the plaintiff in the 2016 Supreme Court case Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association, which aimed to defund and weaken public sector labor unions across the country.
At on time or another, as union members, many of us have run into a treacherous co-worker who is eager to lick the boots of their boss. There’s a term for such a character – scab. That’s Ms. Friedrichs in a nutshell.
The Republican Party’s choice of Ms. Friedrichs as the second speaker in its convention is a disturbing signal that the GOP is now even more hostile to the rights of workers than it has ever been. Read more...

Chamber of Commerce falsely portrays hotel case to attack NLRB
An anti-union front organization set up and controlled by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is using a recent decision by the National Labor Relations Board ("NLRB") involving our union to ludicrously portray the government agency as "activist" and "anti-employer."

Union Endorses Mayor de Blasio for President
It was standing room only at the union hall on June 5, when the Hotel Trades Council endorsed New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio for U.S. President.
The full house was loud and enthusiastic before Mayor de Blasio even arrived, and the fervor grew stronger when HTC President Peter Ward introduced him.
Prizes Awarded in 2020 Writing Competition
The Coronavirus pandemic has staggered our industry and our country, but has not in any way diminished the talent and creativity of the children of our Union's members. This much was obvious from the essays and narratives submitted to the Union's annual writing competition. It shouldn't surprise anyone that our Union supports the re-election of Barack Obama. He was elected President in 2008 with massive support from unions.
HTC Wins Labor Board Election at Hampton Inn SoHo with 89% of the Vote
The workers at the Hampton Inn SoHo voted overwhelmingly on December 9th to be represented by our union.
