Over 250 HTC members attend BUNY rally for union jobs and safer working conditions

Over 250 HTC members turned out at Borough Hall to rally for union jobs and safer working conditions. HTC joined many other unions as a part of Build Up NYC to get the word out. Two workers have died at construction sites in Brooklyn in the last two months and union members came forward to say enough!

Members Vote Overwhelmingly for Dues Increase

On Thursday, July 24 HTC members voted, by an overwhelming majority to approve an increase in union dues. More than 6,500 members voted at seven different locations to approve this dues increase. In the final count, 89.9 percent of those who voted approved the dues increase—a remarkable demonstration of the memberships’ commitment to keep the union strong and to organize the non-union hotel industry.

NJ and Upstate delegates spend the day in NYC

95 of our newer delegates from New Jersey and the capital region of New York saw firsthand some of HTC's impressive accomplishments during a day in NYC. They and their coworkers are among the more than 2,500 hotel and gaming workers the Hotel Trades Council now represents in those regions.

Hotel Voice, February 19, 2020 - As we look ahead to 2020 let’s also take a last look back at some of the significant events in our union during 2019. It’s a good reminder of what can be accomplished through our solidarity and determination. We began the year by announcing what is unquestionably the largest pension increase in the 81-year history of our union. This was particularly impressive when one realizes that at the time this increase was announced the HTC pension was already the largest pension anywhere in the hotel industry.

When I announced to the General Officers and Executive Boards of HTC and Local 6 and the Local 6 Delegate Assembly that I had decided to retire, I recommended that Rich Maroko be appointed to fill my vacant offices. I explained to them the many reasons why I believed Rich’s appointment would be good for our Union.

The purpose of this report is to provide you with the same detailed description of Rich’s biography and career with HTC and Local 6. Most of you who know him, know how hard-fighting and smart he is and how much he cares about our members, but I think it is accurate to assume that you do not have as complete a knowledge of his many accomplishments on behalf of our Union as I have. The New Brooklyn Health Center Is Now Serving Members and Their Families!

Construction is complete, the ribbon cutting has occurred, the new Brooklyn Health Center is open, and Hotel Trades Council members and their families now enjoy the finest healthcare facility of its kind anywhere in the U.S.
