A perfect example is the game last week that featured a battle of the Hiltons—the Hilton New York vs. the Hilton Times Square. The game was a nail-biter throughout and ended with an almost unbelievable flourish. Kelvis Flandez capped off a 31-point night by drilling a buzzer beater from way behind the half court line, resulting in a 50-47 victory for the Hilton New York.

Marriott has waged a very sophisticated and expensive avoidance strategy at its two non-union hotels in New York City: the New York Marriott Marquis, its flagship hotel in Times Square, and the Marriott Downtown, located on Albany and West Streets in lower Manhattan. NYC Council Approves Hotel Worker Severance Bill 40 to 3

On Thursday, September 23rd, the New York City Council voted overwhelmingly to pass the Hotel Worker Severance Bill. The bill, designed to incentivize closed hotels to reopen, requires closed hotels with at least 100 guest rooms to either reopen and recall at least 25% of their staff by November 1st or pay $500 per week to laid off employees for up to 30 weeks.
