The union has won at contract for the workers at the EVEN Hotel in Brooklyn. The EVEN hotel brand is part of the InterContinental Group of hotels, which owns the InterContinental Barclay and InterContinental Times Square, just to name a few. The employees won HTC representation through a card count certification conducted at the Office of the Impartial Chairperson. Later, on March 1, 2017, the HTC-represented employees unanimously ratified the contract, which greatly increases their hourly wage rates and provides free family health care. Their contract—the IWA—covers nearly 30,000 workers in NYC.

Hotel Trades Council Executive Vice President and General Counsel Richard Maroko stated, “Hotel workers in the outer borough deserve the fair wages, health care, retirement benefits, and protections that only a union contract can guarantee. We are thrilled that we were able to win the workers at the EVEN in Brooklyn a contract that did so. We certainly hope this is the beginning of a trend for NYC hotel workers outside of Manhattan.”
