NYC Takes On Illegal Hotel Scheme
New York City is suing to shut down a $2 million illegal hotel operation plaguing the East Side. The City has accused Real Estate Broker Arron Latimer and several co-defendants of operating illegal hotels via Airbnb in six residential buildings, including all eight residential apartments at 344 East 51st Street. By using fake host profiles to skirt City Law, Latimer is accused of renting out the apartments to 6,500 guests and generating $2 million over the last four years. Read more...

Women sue non-union Standard Hotel for discrimination
Two female former cocktail servers have sued the non-union Standard Hotel for gender discrimination. The suit alleges that the two women, both of whom are about 5-foot-4, did not meet the Standard's new standard for cocktail waitresses, i.e., "women who appear to be willowy, svelte and statuesque runway models " The fired cocktail servers sued the hotel due to the gender specific nature of this new policy.
NY Takes Steps to Bring Table Games to NYC
New York Governor Kathy Hochul is advocating to speed up table games licenses for three casinos in the New York City region as part of her 2022 budget proposal. The move could potentially provide thousands of new job opportunities for laid-off hotel workers in the City. Read more...

Since March of 2020, our Union has single-mindedly fought to get as many of our members as possible back to work and to get financial relief for those who nonetheless remain laid off. Earlier this month, our Union secured $2,750 in additional relief for our laid off members and millions of dollars in new incentives for hotels to bring back workers – this time, from New York State. Members Vote To Raise Dues (Photos)
On Thursday, July 24 HTC members voted, by an overwhelming majority to approve an increase in union dues. More than 6,500 members voted at seven different locations to approve this dues increase.
