Our 2021 Election Work is Not Over Yet

On November 2nd, both New York City and New Jersey are holding local elections. Not only will the officials elected this fall oversee the recovery of our region’s economy, but they will be important allies to us as employers try to exploit this crisis to eliminate hotel jobs. The leaders we elect will also, critically, be in office when the GRIWA contract expires (in 2023) and most likely when the IWA (2026) and Division A (2027) contracts expire. Read more...

New Jersey Law Provides Vital Protections for Hotel Workers and Guests

On Tuesday, January 18th, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed into law important new legal safeguards for New Jersey hotel workers and people traveling to the State. 3,000 HTC-represented casino workers return to work, many to even better jobs than before

In early September, after nearly six months of being shuttered due to COVID-19, New York Governor Cuomo permitted the state’s casinos to reopen at 25% capacity and 3,000 unionized casino workers returned to work.

While non-union hotel and gaming workers across the country face hazardous working conditions amidst COVID-19, HTC-represented casino workers are in the very rare position where their protections on the job have gotten stronger and their wages and benefits have improved during the pandemic.
