Our Union is sad to announce the passing of Marie Kelly, who was a PBX Operator at the Carlyle for over 20 years.

At the age of 21, Marie came from Ireland to New York and later had three daughters with her husband Thomas Kelly. Marie’s daughter Catrina shared how her mom was “one of a kind, a true lady, friend and confidant with an infectious laugh and undeniable work ethic.”

Ruth Miriam Lee, The Carlyle

Our sister Ruth Miriam Lee, a beloved fixture at the Carlyle for over 42 years, has passed away. Those who knew her remember her as a caring, selfless, and loving woman who brought joy to her coworkers and never wanted anyone to be unhappy.

Ruth was known for looking after all the people around her. She cared for her elderly mother and two other elderly relatives. She even invited a homeless woman into her home and helped her get back on her feet.

Carlyle Hotel quits attempt to amend labor contract

Management at the Carlyle Hotel has backed down from an attempt to avoid paying the 3.5% July wage increase. Twenty-one other hotels are still seeking to avoid paying the upcoming wage increase, but the hotel workers' union has the right to subpoena a hotel's financial records and will fight all efforts to cut wages.

HTC supports 32BJ at rally for fair contract

On April 2nd, nearly 600 HTC members marched up Park Avenue with several other unions to show solidarity with 32BJ and their demand for a fair contract. The property service union’s contract expires on April 20th. With 32BJ's 70,000 NYC members facing increasing costs of living, the new contract would ensure that these union members will continue to provide for their families.

Roosevelt Hotel Wins Softball Championship

The Roughriders of the Roosevelt Hotel capped off an incredible return to the Hotel Employees Softball League with a come from behind series-deciding win over the defending champions, the Hilton New York. It is the Roosevelt’s first championship since 2005.
