Congratulations to the Waldorf-Astoria’s soccer team. They are the champions of the Hotel Employees Soccer League, courtesy of a big win over the powerful Carlyle Hotel team.

The Waldorf’s win in the title game should not have been too surprising. The Waldorf-Astoria had the most productive offense this season in the Hotel Employees Soccer League, scoring more goals than any other team, and the team demonstrated its dazzling offense in winning its first championship with a 4-0 victory.

Leading the way for Waldorf-Astoria was Fedor (Fred) Zhurov, who scored goals in the 20th, 46th and 50th minutes of the match. And with the Waldorf’s defense limiting the Carlyle to just 4 shots the entire game, victory was virtually assured.

Waldorf Head Coach Guillermo Macias couldn’t have been happier with the way his team played. “I’ve been here for 19 years, and this is our first championship,” he said.

A total of seven teams competed in the soccer circuit this year, in a season filled with great play-making, tight defense and lightning goals. Congratulations to all the players and all the teams on a fine season, and congratulations to the Waldorf-Astoria on its first championship.

The Waldorf-Astoria is this year’s Hotel Employees Soccer League champion.
