Softball wrap-up

As the Hotel Employee Softball League regular season heads down the home stretch, teams are starting to separate themselves from each other in the standings.

Currently the Hilton New York sits at the top with a 9-1 record, thanks in large part to the dominant pitching by the trio of Hector Rodriguez, Sergio Gutierrez and Rafael Torres. The threesome has given up only three runs per game.

The two teams right behind the Hilton New York are also backed by strong pitching. The Carlyle's ace, Francisco Duverge, has not given up more than one earned run per game all season, helping his team to an 8-2 record. Piter Porquin, another ace hurler, has pitched 90% of all innings for Harvard Club (6-3).

The two-time defending champion New York Palace currently sits in fourth place with a 7-4 record. Unlike the top three teams, the Palace has been carried by its hitting. Anthony Arias, Huascar Genao and Vincente Rosario have paced the team with a league-leading eight runs scored per game.

The always exciting playoffs round will begin on Saturday, July 31st on Fields 41-43 on Randall's Island. Members are urged to come out and catch the exciting action!
