On July 16th workers at the world famous Rainbow Room restaurant cast their vote for the union, with 94% voting to be represented by the Hotel Trades Council. There is more good news from the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan (ARP) that was passed by Congress and signed by President Biden in March. Many workers who are receiving — or have already received — unemployment benefits in 2021 qualify for no-cost or low-cost private health insurance. This little known feature of the ARP will last through the end of the year. But eligible workers must apply by August 15. Architect, Construction Company Chosen for New Brooklyn Health Center

Although groundbreaking on the new Brooklyn Health Center will not occur until September, 2014, a considerable amount of work on the facility is already underway. As examples, after careful consideration the Benefit Funds office has retained an architectural firm to design the new Brooklyn Health Center, as well as the construction company that will build it.

Reminder: Men’s Health Awareness Week Is Taking Place This Week

The 2013 Men’s Health Awareness Week takes place at the Health and Dental Centers next week, Monday through Friday, September 30 through October 4. No appointments are necessary for men to visit the Health and Dental Centers to take advantage of the benefits offered by this special event.

Kids Days to Be Held August 23, 24 and 25

Kids Days 2017 will take place at the Health Centers and the Midtown Dental Center on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, August 23, 24 and 25. As always, no appointments will be necessary for families to take advantage of the great benefits of this health awareness event.

Can I Enroll in Subsidized COBRA for April?

While the American Rescue Plan provides free COBRA for eligible laid off employees in April 2021, we do not know yet how you can sign up. With April 1st just days away, our Union is still waiting for the federal government to release the rules for how subsidized COBRA will work under the American Rescue Plan and how to enroll.
