Deadline Nears for Union Plus Scholarship Applications
Even though the New Year has just arrived, it’s not too early for parents and college-bound students to enter the hunt for scholarships, grants and low-interest student loans. In fact, it is almost necessary today, as the cost of college in the last year rose above the rate of inflation for the 21st consecutive year! College is indeed a gateway to success, but it is often an expensive one.

Hotel strike likely in Puerto Rico
The latest round of contract negotiations between Hilton and Local 610, which lasted three days, started off well, but ended badly. The first two sessions, held November 11 and 12, were productive. They began by revisiting the union's economic proposal, which had been put on hold temporarily while the union waited for quotes from insurance companies for an improved health plan for employees of the Condado Plaza and El San Juan Hotel and Casino.

They will have a huge say over how working people – and our members – are treated during the economic recovery. If that weren’t reason enough to take these elections seriously, in all likelihood, whoever wins the mayoral election will also be elected to a second term. That means that the mayor who is elected this year will likely be in power when our industry-wide contract expires in 2026. Read more...
A Report from HTC President Rich Maroko:
There is no corner of the globe where this pandemic hasn’t spread. And while we all share many common hardships, we also each feel the impact on a personal and individual level.
For our Union, and our members, we find ourselves in the midst of what are undoubtedly the darkest days in the 82-year history of our Union. Our industry is almost entirely closed down, something that has never happened before — not during the Great Depression of the 1930s, not during the world wars, and not after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Almost 90% of our members are laid off. No one can say when business will come back or when life will return to normal. Read more...
Round and About
Community news from our Union brothers and sisters
Stronger Contract Enforcement
Enforcing our contracts is already one of our Union’s strengths - with thousands of grievances resolved each year. But we’re striving to do even better.
Our Union is launching six initiatives designed to help us find more contract violations and resolve them more quickly.
