The latest round of contract negotiations between Hilton and Local 610, which lasted three days, started off well, but ended badly. The first two sessions, held November 11 and 12, were productive. They began by revisiting the union's economic proposal, which had been put on hold temporarily while the union waited for quotes from insurance companies for an improved health plan for employees of the Condado Plaza and El San Juan Hotel and Casino.

Union in Puerto Rico makes economic demands

Union contract negotiations took place on Friday October 15 at the ILA building. On Thursday, the day before the negotiations, the Union's Negotiating Committee met and agreed on an initial wage proposal consisting of: an across-the- board raise of $.60 per hour for non-tipped employees and $.30 per hour for tipped employees, and a plan for closing the wide gap between wage rates paid to employee within the same job classifications.

The Hotel Employees Basketball League is providing exciting action each week! A perfect example is the game last week that featured a battle of the Hiltons—the Hilton New York vs. the Hilton Times Square. The game was a nail-biter throughout and ended with an almost unbelievable flourish. Kelvis Flandez capped off a 31-point night by drilling a buzzer beater from way behind the half court line, resulting in a 50-47 victory for the Hilton New York.
