Marriott Marquis and Marriott Downtown Workers Seize a Second Chance To Join HTC

Marriott has waged a very sophisticated and expensive avoidance strategy at its two non-union hotels in New York City: the New York Marriott Marquis, its flagship hotel in Times Square, and the Marriott Downtown, located on Albany and West Streets in lower Manhattan. The cornerstone of Marriott’s union avoidance strategy was doing a masterful job tricking the workers into believing that they had the same rights and job protections that HTC members have under our contract. Workers at the TWA Hotel Vote 128 to 0 to Ratify First Union Contract

On June 17th, 2020, workers at the TWA Hotel unanimously voted to ratify their first union contract by a resounding 128 YES to 0 NO. The contract victory comes less than one year after TWA workers first won HTC representation through a card check neutrality agreement—an agreement that made sure the workers at TWA could choose to join our Union easily and without fear. Now, the TWA Hotel is signed onto the Union’s Industry Wide Agreement (“IWA”), the master contract that HTC members have fought to defend and improve over the past 80 years. The new contract includes immediate wage increases averaging $5.10/hour, free family health benefits, safety protections during the Coronavirus, and a long list of additional rights. Read more...

Resorts World Catskills Workers Vote Overwhelmingly to Ratify Their New Contract!

On Monday, March 30th, the workers at Resorts World Catskills ratified their second HTC contract through an online secret ballot vote. An overwhelming majority of 98% voted in favor or the agreement.

Negotiated before the Coronavirus outbreak, Resorts World Catskills signed onto the Greater Industry Wide Agreement (GRIWA), our union’s landmark master contract for upstate New York, Northern New Jersey and the suburbs of New York City. The GRIWA provides much needed security to the workers at Resorts World Catskills during this extremely difficult time in our country, securing rights, wages and benefits until March 31, 2023. 

On the Ballot: The Survival of the American Labor Movement

Many Americans understand that a vote for the President is, in effect, a vote on the future of the U.S. Supreme Court, whose rulings will affect our civil liberties and rights for years to come. But Supreme Court Justices are not the only presidential appointees that have significant power over the lives of the American people. A group of lesser known presidential appointees that are effectively “on the ballot” each election are those to the National Labor Relations Board (“NLRB”). These appointees are responsible for protecting the rights of American workers to organize, join a union, and collectively bargain over their wages, benefits, and working conditions.

As working people cast their ballots this election, they will be voting on the very survival of the American labor movement.

Springhill Suites Newark Airport Ratifies First Contract

On May 5, 2015, workers at the Springhill Suites Newark Liberty International Airport Hotel unanimously ratified their first union contract. This is a major victory for our the workers at this hotel, who will see an immediate improvement in their working conditions. The contract took effect immediately, and will remain in effect until March 31st, 2018.
