Hotel Industry, Union Remember Anne Power
The New York City hotel industry was shaken recently when Anne Power passed away. She was a veteran of the human resources departments at several hotels in our city, beginning at the St. Regis, and serving as the director at the Palace and the Westin Times Square, and she was highly respected by everyone. She was only 54 years of age when she passed away, adding to the great sadness her loss caused us.

NYC Council Approves Hotel Worker Severance Bill 40 to 3
On Thursday, September 23rd, the New York City Council voted overwhelmingly to pass the Hotel Worker Severance Bill. The bill, designed to incentivize closed hotels to reopen, requires closed hotels with at least 100 guest rooms to either reopen and recall at least 25% of their staff by November 1st or pay $500 per week to laid off employees for up to 30 weeks. Update: In-Person learning delayed for most NYC Public School students

On September 17, 2020, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that most New York City public schools would delay the start of in-person learning. In-person learning was set to begin on September 21st for all students who are enrolled in blended learning programs. Guidance from NYC for Hotel Workers Scheduled to Work During Curfew

New York City has put into effect a curfew from 8 pm until 5 am daily until June 8, 2020. Hotel workers (and other essential workers) who are scheduled to work during the hours of the curfew, have a meal break, or must travel from their home to work and back home are permitted to be out during the curfew.
