Using our political power to pass safety legislation in New Jersey

After weeks of working with our allies in the NJ State Legislature and the Governor’s Office, our Union is proud to announce that a new law has been signed in New Jersey that will protect hotel workers’ safety and jobs in the era of COVID-19 and beyond. The law will require daily room cleans, EPA-certified cleaning agents, and minimum staffing at the front desk. This law is the very first of its kind anywhere in the country. It went into effect on Thursday, June 25, 2020.

Rivers Casino Workers Ratify Their First Contract

An excellent new first contract has been successfully negotiated by our union for the 800 employees of the Rivers Resort and Casino in Schenectady, New York. It was ratified by the workers with a resounding 98% majority on October 17th and 18th. The casino/resort signed on to HTC’s Greater Regional Industry Wide Agreement (the "GRIWA"), which is our union’s recently established landmark master contract for upstate New York, Northern New Jersey and the suburbs of New York City.

Tavern on the Green is focused on attracting as much business as it possibly can throughout the coming holiday season, its last under the LeRoy family, the restaurant's current operators. New Year's Eve is expected be a major event, and the restaurant's chief operating officer has promised that they will "decorate the place to the nines."
