The New York Department of Labor has announced that the state will begin to distribute $300 a week supplemental unemployment benefits (provided under the Lost Wages Assistance Program) the week of September 14th.

Eligible workers will receive the supplemental $300 for the weeks ending in August 2, August 9, and August 16. Once these 3 weeks of funds are distributed, New York State will have to reapply with FEMA in order to continue these benefits.

Members who are collecting unemployment should check their email for updates from the New York Department of Labor.

Many unemployed workers will pre-qualify for the additional $300 a week supplemental benefits. If you pre-qualify, no further action is needed. The NY DOL says that it will email you that you pre-qualify and you will begin to automatically receive the additional payments the week of September 14th.

For those who did not pre-qualify, you will need to certify with the NY DOL that you are out of work due to COVID-19. The NY DOL sent an email on September 11th that must be filled out and submitted to receive the supplemental benefits. If you would prefer to certify by phone, call 833-491-0632. Please be aware that in order to receive your payments on time, you must certify by 5pm on September 15th.
