Media advisory: Hotel workers to hold series of protests at Hilton Hotels
Unite Here Local 610 represents more than 1,100 employees at three San Juan area Hilton hotels: the Conrad Condado Plaza Hilton Hotel, the Caribe Hilton Hotel, and the El San Juan Hilton Hotel & Casino. The National Labor Relations Board has issued complaints against Hilton for failing to negotiate in good faith with the workers and for intimidating and coercing them.
Elected Officials Comment on Resorts World Contract
The news that 1,375 workers at the Resorts World racino in Queens had a contract received wide attention in the media. Much of that attention was due to the fact that the contract nearly doubled wages immediately and will nearly triple wages by 2016. The contract was also featured in television ads urging a yes vote for casino gaming in New York, showing that Resorts World workers had good-paying jobs with benefits. The voters of New York obviously agreed. But in addition to all the media attention, the contract at Resorts World also drew comments from a number of elected officials.
Hotel strike likely in Puerto Rico
The latest round of contract negotiations between Hilton and Local 610, which lasted three days, started off well, but ended badly. The first two sessions, held November 11 and 12, were productive. They began by revisiting the union's economic proposal, which had been put on hold temporarily while the union waited for quotes from insurance companies for an improved health plan for employees of the Condado Plaza and El San Juan Hotel and Casino.
