After signing up a majority of the workers, the union has filed all necessary petitions with the United States Government to demand union recognition from Boathouse management. The union, along with its supporters, is now free to take any actions necessary to force management to reinstate the employees who were illegally terminated, and to negotiate a contract with the union.

Peter Ward Retires and Rich Maroko Named to Succeed Him

After 41 years of distinguished service, HTC President and Local 6 Business Manager Peter Ward announced he was stepping down from both his union offices to begin his retirement. On August 12, Mr. Ward and all of the General Officers enthusiastically recommended that the HTC and Local 6 Executive Boards, and Local 6 Delegate Assembly vote to appoint Richard Maroko, the Union’s chief negotiator, HTC Recording Secretary and General Counsel, and Local 6 Executive Vice President to succeed him as the leader of HTC and Local 6. That recommendation was wholeheartedly moved, seconded and enacted unanimously by all three governing bodies, as prescribed in the by-laws of both HTC and Local 6. Read more...

NJ and Upstate delegates spend the day in NYC
95 of our newer delegates from New Jersey and the capital region of New York saw firsthand some of HTC's impressive accomplishments during a day in NYC. They and their coworkers are among the more than 2,500 hotel and gaming workers the Hotel Trades Council now represents in those regions.
Rivers Casino Workers Ratify Their First Contract
An excellent new first contract has been successfully negotiated by our union for the 800 employees of the Rivers Resort and Casino in Schenectady, New York. It was ratified by the workers with a resounding 98% majority on October 17th and 18th.
