Another Best Western opens in Brooklyn

Within months of Brooklyn's first Best Western opening in Brooklyn, Best Western International opened its second in mid-December 2010. As announced in Hotel Interactive, the new property, the Best Western Plus Prospect Park Hotel, is a ground-up project and is located on 4th Avenue at 26th Street. The hotel is yet another in a series of new openings in a borough that had previously seen almost nothing by way of hotel development.

The Democratic National Committee “DNC” announced in November that they will host the 2016 Democratic National Convention in either Brooklyn, Philadelphia, or Columbus. Delegates to the 2016 Democratic National Convention will select the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee. HTC President Peter Ward urged the DNC to chose New York City for the 2016 Democratic National Convention. “New York City’s unionized hotel industry embodies the Party’s ideals of shared prosperity and a vibrant middle class,” Ward commented.

According to data from Smith Travel Research, Inc., 15 hotel projects are currently under construction in Brooklyn, 12 of which are scheduled to open in 2010.

More hotels open in Brooklyn hotel hub

Two more hotels opened in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn this summer. The Union Hotel, a 43-room property on Degraw Street between Third and Fourth Avenues, was the first of the two to open. The Fairfield Inn New York Brooklyn opened a month later; it is a Marriott property.
