NY State Residents: Apply now for Rent Relief!

Earlier this month, New York State launched an Emergency Rental Assistance Program to help New Yorkers who are struggling to pay their rent and utilities. If eligible, you could qualify for up to 12 months of overdue rent payments and up to 3 months of future rent payments! Funds are limited, so apply soon!

What are the benefits?

You may be eligible to receive the following benefits from the program:

  • Up to 12 months of payments for unpaid rent accrued since March 13, 2020
  • Up to 3 months of additional rent assistance
  • Up to 12 months of payments for unpaid electric and gas utility bills accrued since March 13, 2020

Who is eligible?

Eligibility is based on meeting all of the following criteria:

  • Your household income is 80% or less of the Area Median Income
  • A member of your household has received unemployment benefits, had a reduction in income, or experienced significant financial hardship due to COVID-19 since March 13, 2020
  • You have overdue rent since March 13, 2020
  • You are at risk of housing instability or homelessness

How do I apply?

To apply you will need:

  • Identification for all household members;
  • Social security number of all household members (if applicable) (Your immigration status will not impact your eligibility for the program);
  • Proof of rent amount;
  • Proof of residency and occupancy; 
  • Proof of income; and
  • Copy of a gas or electric utility bill
