New Jersey Homeowners: Apply for Assistance Starting February 8th!

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced that on February 8th, the state of New Jersey would launch the Emergency Rescue Mortgage Assistance program (ERMA), using $325 million to help New Jersey homeowners who have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This initiative, which stems from the federal Homeowner Assistance Fund, will provide eligible homeowners up to $35,000 in assistance to cover mortgage arrearages, and other qualified housing expenses.
ERMA also has free housing counseling services available now that can help applicants understand the application process, assist them in exploring all available options, and work with applicants’ mortgage lenders.
Who is eligible?
- New Jersey homeowners who experienced a demonstrated COVID-19 related financial hardship after January 20, 2020
- Must own and occupy an eligible primary residence
- Must require assistance with delinquent mortgage payments or other qualified housing expenses
- Must have an income at or below 150% of their county’s Area Median Income
- Homes already in foreclosure will also be eligible for assistance
