Union Wins Back Pay at Surrey Hotel

There are protections in the contract against layoffs out of seniority and managers doing the work of laid off members, as the Surrey Hotel recently learned. Here, as a result of action taken by the Union, three HTC members from the Surrey are receiving checks for back pay from Local 6 Business Agent Dorota Horwitt. The members are, from left to right, Pablo Castro, Jessica Pierson and Rocky Marmara, the latter two of whom are union delegates. A total of eight workers split $4,500 and we are happy to add that management has corrected the problem on a going forward basis.
